Choosing a Smart Phone
| Under TechnologyIt seems that phones these days are all singing and all dancing. People sometimes seem to expect them to not only make calls, text, email and surf, but also to change nappies and take out the trash. Well maybe that is a bit far fetched, but it illustrates the point.
With so many options available, on a massive range of phones, it can be hard to know what brand to choose, never mind the model. Which is why it is important that you know what it is that you are looking for in a phone, and then keep that in mind as you make the choices.
Choosing a Smart Phone Means Choosing Options
Every smart phone has it’s positive and negative points. There is no universal ‘best selection’, it all comes down to your wants and needs. Needs such as
ñ Battery life. No one likes their phone running out of battery – but some phones have this happen far quicker than others. If this is something that concerns you, especially if you are outside a lot, then ensure you look into the battery life of a phone before choosing.
ñ Apps. Some phones have access to a huge range of applications, usually a central ‘bank’ of them from Google or Apple. If you know that you want to gain access to the wide ranging aspects that apps can give you, make sure your phone can get you that access.
ñ Gaming. For many of us the smart phone is a wonderful way to kill a bit of time when we are bored. A few minutes before a meeting, 30 mins on the train home. And this boredom is well killed by gaming. Does the phone have any good games? Can it run the latest ones out?
ñ Interactivity. Many phones these days are far from just phones, they can connect and interact with the world around you. You can use them as a remote for you TV, or stream media through them onto the TV screen, or use them to record programs. Know what the minimum level of interactivity you need is, and ensure that any new phone has it.
ñ Price point. There is no point in beating around the bush – times are hard financially for many of us, no matter how much we might wish it otherwise. Which is why you need to ensure that the price is one that you can afford, rather than stretching yourself for just a phone. These days there are so many smart phones you will always be able to find one to meet your budget.
ñ Internet. If you know that you are going to need a good internet connection on the phone – perhaps for social networking, browsing the web or surfing, then you need to ensure that it can get a good connection. That means 3G when out and about, and being able to connect to networks when in the home.
Mobile phones are fast becoming more than just phones, more like portals to the outside world, and a central hub for home entertainment systems. Whilst this can be expensive it doesn’t have to be, many phones are affordable, as are the plans that they are on. A Sprint coupon, for example, can make massive savings on call costs. Choosing the right package for you is an important step once you have chosen the handset.
